Design Approach
“… to liberate the potential of your mind, body and soul, you must first expand your imagination. You see, things are always created twice: first in the workshop of the mind and then, and only then, in reality. I call this process ‘blueprinting’ because anything you create in your outer world began as a simple blueprint in your inner world.” –Robin Sharma
The process of architectural design is similar to living a creative life. First we create a blueprint of our desires and intentions. Then, by networking with others we make it a reality in the physical world. Our intent is to network with you to create your healthy and harmonious life.
More than 30 years of work experience has resulted in a wide variety of projects, featuring different types of constructions and design methods.
Several of our homes are certified with the Healthy Built Homes, Green Built NC or ENERGY STAR.
Green and Sustainable
Alice Dodson Architect offers a broad palette of ideas for green and sustainable design:
- Passive solar design, active solar for heat and hot water, PV panels for electricity
- Rainwater collection
- Grey water treatment and utilization
- Geothermal design for heat, air-conditioning and hot water
- Collaboration with an interior designer or a landscape architect to achieve a more integrated and consistent project
Building Biology and Ecology
This approach addresses nontoxic natural material use, clean air, water system and alternative energy use. It involves ongoing studies to prevent electromagnetic pollution.
Feng Shui
Feng Shui speaks to proper orientation and an unobstructed, balanced energy flow—connecting the energies of the building, people and site in a harmonious way.
Sacred Geometry
Sacred Geometry creates proper proportions—three-dimensional harmonious relationships in space. The effect is much like “music in space.”
Teamwork
We love what we do.
As part of our philosophy, we work in teams, including the client, architect, structural engineer, builder and other designers (interior, landscape, lighting, etc.) to produce superior, creative solutions and an integrated design.
“Any building, enclosed space by its design supports its inhabitants spiritually, intellectually and emotionally as well as being a functional and pleasing physical shelter.”
–Alice Dodson
